Materials, Classes and Discussions for English Language Learners

Cook now has an English Language Learning collection. Books and audiovisual materials to help adults learn English are all in one place in the Adult Services department. This collection features materials to help adults improve their reading skills and items useful to new immigrants, such as citizenship guides.

Looking for books in your native language? Cook's collection of World Languages in the Adult Services department include books in Chinese, French, Korean, Russian and Spanish. Evergreen's collection includes Russian and Spanish books, and the Bookmobile offers books in Spanish.

Cook's meeting room is a new location for Mundelein High School's English as a Second Language classes. Everyone interested in learning English at Cook is invited to participate on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9 a.m. until noon.

Coming in January:
Book Talking for English Language Learners begins a spring session on April 8, 2008 at 7:00 PM in the Meeting Room at Cook Memorial Public Library. We will all read the same book and practice English conversation as we discuss it. We will also enjoy the movie version of our book and music and related information about our reading. Reading and Talking for English Language Learners begins a spring session on April 9, 2008 at 9:00 AM at the United Methodist Church of Libertyville in the nursery room. We will choose reading selections from various offerings at our meetings and discuss what we have read with each other.
