Email Notification
You have the option of receiving email messages instead of phone calls or paper notices when...

  • a hold is available for pick up (in place of a phone call or mailed notice).
  • an item is due in two days, as a reminder.
  • an item is 15 days overdue (in place of a paper notice). For DVDs, an email is sent at 3 days overdue.
  • your library card will soon expire.

To register, bring your library card to a Library location and fill out an email notification registration form.

Email notices returned to the Library as undeliverable for any reason will result in removal of your email address and suspension of your account, temporarily barring you from checking items out, renewing items, or placing holds. We will resume notifying you by phone and through the U.S. mail. Keep your email address up-to-date by informing our Circulation Department (847-362-2330) of any changes.

Failure to receive a reminder or notice of any kind does not waive your responsibility for the timely return of materials or any fines incurred. Learn more about email notification.

Overdue Notices
Overdue notices for DVDs will be sent out when items are 3 days overdue and notices for all other materials will be sent at 15 days overdue. Notices are sent as courtesy only, and do not include amount of fines. Statements will be mailed at 29 days overdue, and card privileges will be suspended at this time. Letters will be sent at 45 days for items not returned. Accounts are sent to a collection agency when they are 60 days overdue, and an additional $10 processing fee will be added.

The Library circulates close to 1.3 million items annually. As a result, there are rare occasions when errors are made in regard to patron accounts. If you believe an error has occurred, please double-check your home and vehicle to make sure the item has not been misplaced.

Please bear in mind that there may be some delay before returned items are reflected in your online account. Items are not checked in while the Library is closed, and items returned at the end of the day or after hours are checked in when the library opens the next day. Additionally, there may a delay if your items were returned to a remote dropbox.

If you believe an error has been made on your account, please call the Circulation Desk at 847-362-0438, and a staff member will assist you.
