- Monday, March 16, 2009: Construction of the Aspen Drive Library has started! View pictures
- Tuesday, March 11, 2009: Libertyville Village Board approves three zoning variances. More
- Monday, March 2, 2009: EVS construction will begin to prepare the Aspen Drive site for construction by creating a construction fence.
- Monday, January 26, 2009: The Library Board approved a site design for the expanded Cook Park Library. The plan allows for an entrance into the new parking lot from Brainerd and an exit onto Church Street, which will create a one-way traffic flow in a clockwise motion. The plan will now be submitted to the Libertyville Zoning Board, which will meet on February 23.
- Saturday, January 24, 2009: The Library District broke ground for the Aspen Drive Library. See pictures
- Monday, January 12, 2009: The Library District requested a continuance from Libertyville's Planning and Zoning Board. The next meeting will be held on February 23.
- December 30, 2008: The Library Board, concerned with the safety of patrons, frequent disruptions of library service, and the level of noise during construction, has asked staff members to investigate relocating during construction of the Cook Park Library. If the library can find an affordable space in Libertyville, we will be able to offer a safe and enjoyable library environment, while cutting construction costs and time by as much as six months.
- December 12, 2008: The property title for the Aspen Drive site was transferred from the Village of Vernon Hills to the Cook Memorial Public Library District.
- December 3, 2008: The Library Board unanimously approved awarding the Aspen Drive Library to EVS Construction. The $5,390,000 bid was the lowest responsible bid submitted. More
- December 3, 2008: The Library Board approved an ordinance to authorize the sale of $7 million in debt certificates. Proceeds from this sale will be used to fund the Cook Park Library expansion. More
- November 25, 2008: After a positive meeting with the Libertyville Zoning Board, the Library was granted a continuance and will appear before the Zoning Board again on January 12, 2009. The Zoning Board asked the Library's archictects to work with the Village staff and traffic engineers to respond to traffic flow concerns in the parking lot.
- November 17, 2008: Libertyville Appearance Review committee approved the Cook Park Library design. The project will now go before the Libertyville Zoning Board on November 24.
- October 27, 2008: Hawthorn students were treated to a special 'sneak preview' of the new library on Aspen Drive. The students had the chance to see pictures of the new building, talk to the architect, and create a 'human outline' of the new building on the actual library site. More
- October 15, 2008: Bids for the Aspen Drive project were received. Three of the bids were below budget. The Board of Trustees is reviewing the bid documentation and will announce a construction company soon. Construction on the Aspen Drive project is expected to start by the end of the year.
- January 16, 2008: The Board of Trustees agrees that the project budget should not exceed $14 million. The new library on Aspen Drive and the expanded Cook Park Library will each cost
approximately
$7 million. More
