This summer will be our most exciting yet! Even though the library will be under construction, we’ll keep you entertained for hours with storytimes, building programs, fantastic entertainment, crafts, and our Summer Reading Club!

  Build a future reader! Each half-hour session will feature songs, fingerplays, simple stories, movement, and social interaction.

  All programs are open to Cook Memorial Public Library District cardholders. Registration begins one week in advance, unless otherwise noted.   MERRIMAC ROOM OF THE LASCHEN COMMUNITY CENTER, 294 EVERGREEN DRIVE, VERNON HILLS  
  Are you a future builder? Learn basic tool skills, hammering, sawing, using a screwdriver, wrench, and level. Use your new skills to make your very own bookends. All tools and supplies will be provided. Step up to the workbench by registering for the 5-week session beginning June 16.

  Go back to ancient times with David Macaulay’s books to see how historic structures were created, and find out about life in ancient Egypt, Rome, and Medieval times. Build a model pyramid, Roman city, and castle! Registration for the 3-week session begins July 2.

  Do you like to build things with shapes, balance, and design? Learn to build like architect Frank Lloyd Wright, who credits Froebel Blocks for inspiring his innovative Prairie style. Now you can experience them, too.

  Discover the fun and excitement of building with 3-dimensional pentominos, the problem-solving toy in Blue Balliett’s mystery novel, The Wright 3. Take the Wright 3 “Virtual Tour” of Wright’s Robie House while you problem-solve and challenge your design skills.
