Voter Registration @ the Library
The General Primary Election in Illinois will be held Tuesday, March 20, 2012. Not sure if you are registered to vote? Go to Lake County's Voter Power page, enter your name, address and date of birth to find out. If you are registered, you will find out the location of your voting place, what will be on your ballot, and information about the voting by mail option. Want to find out about voting early? See the Voting Options page.
If you've moved within Lake County since you registered, update your information by mailing your name, old and new address, date of birth and signature to Willard Helander, Lake County Clerk, 18 North County Street, Room 101, Waukegan, Illinois 60085. If you have moved into Lake County since you registered, you will need to re-register with your new address. You must also re-register if you have changed your name.
You can register at the Reference Desk at either the Cook Park or Aspen Drive Library through Tuesday, February 21. Bring two forms of ID with you. One must show your current address and could be a driver's license, a state ID, a utility bill addressed to you at your current address, or a personalized check. To be eligible to register, you must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old by the date of the election, and have lived in your voting precinct for at least 30 days by the date of the election. If you miss the registration deadline, there is a grace period during which you can register and vote at the County Courthouse in Waukegan.

This week’s question: How can I keep up to date on what’s new in the type of library materials I’m interested in, such as large type books or feature films or audiobooks?
There are a few ways to keep up to date. First, check out the New and Recommended link that appears on the new search page of our catalog.
This is a handy page, because it contains links to both our New Arrivals RSS feeds and our enewsletter RSS feeds. Feeds display well in Internet Explorer and Firefox. If you use Chrome as your browser and haven't added the RSS extension, go here and click the box that says Add to Chrome to make RSS feeds display correctly.
You can also access all of our RSS feeds by viewing the drop-down menu under Books, Movies and Music, and choosing either New Arrivals – Books, or New Arrivals – Films & Music. You can access the feeds there any time or subscribe to receive any of them in your own news reader. To decide if you want to subscribe to RSS feeds and find out how to do it, watch this short video.
If RSS isn’t for you, you can sign up to receive our enewsletters via email. Each one features reviews of new titles with links to the catalog. Go here to sign up for as many as you’d like.

Here’s a question from the patron survey: How can I get a list of all the feature films you have in a certain genre, like action or comedy?
Go to our web site, www.cooklib.org. Hover over Books, Movies and Music and choose Movies and TV from the drop down menu.
In the top left corner you’ll see a box with the most popular movie genres listed.
Click one to bring up your chosen list in our catalog.
If you want the list to be alphabetical, click the word Title at the top of the list. If you want it to be by date, with the newest titles first, click the word Date instead.
What's Next in Series
Do some of your favorite authors write series? Do you sometimes wonder which of their books are in which series, or the order of books in a particular series? Wonder no more! One of the Library Links on the bottom of every results page in our catalog is What’s Next: Books in Series. Just click that link and enter the author’s name and/or the series name and you will have your answers.
My Reading History
This week's question: Can I somehow make the catalog remember what I've checked out, even after I've returned the items?
That's what My Reading History is for. To turn it on, click the My Reading History button in My Account. You will then see a button that says Activate. Once My Reading History is activated, the catalog will begin to keep a chronological record of the items you check out, with the exception of items borrowed through Interlibrary Loan. You may delete titles from your My Reading History list or de-activate the service at any time by clicking the My Reading History button and then the Delete or Deactivate button.
