The Cook Memorial Public Library District is currently seeking candidates for the following positions: 

Collection Development Manager / Adult Services

Due to an internal promotion, Cook Memorial Public Library District is again seeking a librarian with collection development experience to maintain the Library’s collection development plan and to monitor its implementation for the Adult Services collections at the Cook Park Library in Libertyville, IL, and Aspen Drive Library in Vernon Hills, IL.

Duties:

  • Implements collection development procedures and works with appropriate staff to maximize automated systems applications for collection.
  • Oversees collection development, including targeted selection of new materials to revamp and/or enhance existing collection.
  • Ensures that weeding is consistently done, allowing proper space allocation of adult library materials.
  • Reviews professional literature, studies changes and trends in collection management, and suggests appropriate changes in the collection development plan.
  • Monitors adult materials budget.
  • Participates in the development of positive working relationships with the community and with other departments.
  • Provides Reference and Readers’ Advisory service to patrons at multiple reference desks.

Qualifications:

  • MLS degree from an ALA-accredited library school.
  • Minimum of five years of extensive collection management experience in a public library.
  • Thorough knowledge of adult literature and online resources.
  • Familiarity with current issues and trends related to library services for adults.
  • Ability to work effectively with people of all ages.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong writing and presentation skills.
  • Comfortable with technology; proficiency with Microsoft Office products and online reference resources.
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, and manage multiple projects.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license; have access to and be able to drive a car.

Salary & Hours:

  • $52,018 minimum.
  • Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

PART-TIME HIGH SCHOOL PAGE

Cook Memorial Public Library District is seeking a responsible, public service-oriented individual to work in the Circulation Department at our Cook Park Library in Libertyville and Aspen Drive Library in Vernon Hills.

Hours:  Approximately 10 – 13 hours per week during the school year:

  • A combination of early evening and weekend shifts
  • Training begins mid-summer; position begins in fall

Duties:

  • Calling patrons regarding reserve items.
  • Working the Circulation Desk, checking materials in and out to library patrons.

Requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Comfortable using the computer
  • Detail-oriented
  • Good organizational skills
  • Reliable and willing to fill in extra hours when necessary

Pay scale:

  • $8.48 per hour
