Technology Associate (non-exempt)

Cook Memorial Public Library District has one part-time position open for a tech-savvy, service-oriented, information technology associate.  Duties include: troubleshooting staff/patron technical issues (i.e., printers, computer etc.); assisting staff with computer set-up for programs, classes or public room reservations; responding to patron and staff technology assistance requests; supporting IT contractor with projects and development.

Hours: 10 to 12 hours per week during the following times:
Monday through Thursday 6 – 9 pm
Saturday 9 – 5 pm
Sunday 1 -5 pm


  • Strong knowledge of computers, printers, Internet, web browsers, and common computer software, including Microsoft Office
  • High school diploma
  • College/technical training computer science highly desirable
  • Ability to interact patiently and pleasantly with people of all ages
  • Experience with Windows operating environment required. Experience with MAC operating environment preferred


Physical requirements include: speaking, hearing, vision and keyboarding ability sufficient to adequately perform the job. Communicate in English, both orally and in writing. Ability to handle urgent situations in a calm, capable manner.  Must be able to work at both Aspen Drive and Cook Park Libraries and occasionally at some events outside of the library. Ability to push/pull up to 50 pounds, lift and carry up to 20 pounds occasionally with or without accommodation.

Pay Scale:
$14.50 per hour

Librarian Intern

Cook Memorial Public Library District is seeking a friendly, tech-savvy and customer-focused intern to assist patrons of all ages with information and reader’s advisory needs and provide one-on-one instruction of the library’s digital collections.  This is an ideal opportunity for MLIS students seeking public library experience.

Hours: 2 positions averaging 10-15 hours per week with evening and weekend availability required.  Length of the internships will vary, based upon availability of student.

Rate of Pay: $15.37/ hr.


  • Assists patrons with library digital collections including OverDrive, 3M Cloud Library, Zinio, Freegal, and Hoopla.
  • Answers reference questions utilizing online catalog, print resources, Internet, and subscription databases.
  • Operates and performs basic troubleshooting of library computers and equipment.


  • Current enrollment in a graduate school of library and information studies accredited by the American Library Association (ALA).
  • College degree.
  • Strong technology aptitude.  Proficiency with digital formats and devices, including tablets, e-readers, and laptops.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to high quality reference practices, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in customer service.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented self-starter with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work scheduled shifts at Aspen Drive Library in Vernon Hills and Cook Park Library in Libertyville.
