Library Director

Cook Memorial Public Library District seeks a dedicated and dynamic Library Director to lead, manage, and inspire a staff of over 140 employees at two full-service libraries:  Cook Park Library, Libertyville, IL; and Aspen Drive Library, Vernon Hills, IL; as well as a Bookmobile.  The district serves nearly 60,000 residents of Libertyville, Green Oaks, Mettawa, Indian Creek, most of Vernon Hills, and neighborhoods in eastern Mundelein and western Lake Forest.  CMPLD constructed a new facility in Vernon Hills in 2010, and expanded and remodeled its original building in Libertyville in 2011.  A strategic plan is in place for fiscal years 2016-2018.

Voted one of Library Journal’s 2014 America’s Star Libraries, Cook Memorial Public Library District continues to be the highest circulating library in Lake County and the eighth highest circulating library in Illinois.  CMPLD has also been recognized by the Illinois Library Association for creative programming and community collaborations.

Upon the retirement of our current Director, we are looking for a leader who can manage an operating budget of $9 million; appreciate working with a committed, seven-member, elected Board of Trustees, an experienced management team, and a strong, collaborative staff.

Vision, leadership, energy, fiscal acumen, and exemplary communication skills are a must, along with a commitment to high professional, ethical service and standards.  The ability to foster strong community relations is imperative as well.  The Cook Memorial Public Library Director will be comfortable with technology and eager to experiment with technological innovation that supports the library’s mission.  An MLS or MLIS from an accredited college or university, and eight years of library service with three years as a public Library Director or Assistant Director are required.
