Not Your Usual Snow Man
Dear Readers,
Are you staying nice and warm inside your house these days or are
you one who is outside loving all these feet of snow we have gotten
lately? I like snow but not quite THIS much!
You have heard the expression "No two snowflakes are alike," right?
It is actually true! Let's go back in time to Jericho, Vermont to the
home of farmer W. A. Bentley. It's 1885 and he's figured out how

to adapt a microscope to a bellow camera. He is fascinated by
taking pictures of snowflakes as they fall outside! Eventually,
he took photos documenting 5000 different snowflakes and
published his pictures in the book Snow Crystals in 1931.
(McGraw-Hill published this book which is no longer in print.)

Our library, though, does own the book shown above. Inside
you can read more about the special man with the nickname of
"Snowflake" Bentley and be truly amazed with his passion for
something we have plenty of in our neighborhoods these days:
snow!
Tossing you a snowball,
Paige Turner !
