Dear Readers,

4th fun1

There's no time like summertime to gather your friends

and play outside!  Even better?  Learn a new kind of tag

to play as you celebrate the 4th of July called

Stars and Stripes Freeze Tag.

Thanks to a book I found in our non-fiction section  -

Celebrate Four Seasons of Holiday Fun  (J745.5941 WHI)

by Brooks Whitney - I learned this new game and I want

to share it with you now.  Here's how to play:

Divide your group into 2 teams - the Stars and the Stripes.

Have the teams line up on opposite sides of the yard (or park),

facing each other.  Each team picks a goalie.  On "go," each team

tries to get to the other side's home base without being tagged

by the goalie.  When a Star is tagged, she/he must freeze with

her/his arms straight out, like a star.  When a Stripe is tagged,

he/she must freeze in a straight line, like a stripe.  Players can

tag their teammates to unfreeze them.  The first team to get all

of its players to the other side wins.

Have a perfectly-pleasing, flag-flying, Happy 4h of July!

Waving off,

Paige Turner !
