3D Printing Guidelines

  1. 3D printing is available for registered cardholders age 14 and older. Account must be in good standing.
  2. Files must be:
    1. In .stl format
    2. No larger than 9.5” W x 8”L x 7.5”H (250mm W x 210mm L x 200mm H)
    3. Submitted through our online form.
  3. Files can only be printed in a single color in PLA filament.
  4. The library can only print projects that take less than 8 hours to complete. If it is determined a file will take longer than 8 hours, the library will contact you and discuss what changes can be made to the file.
  5. The cost for printing is based upon the finished product weight, as follows:
    1. 1 to 30 grams – $2.00
    2. 31 to 50 grams – $4.00
    3. 51 to 70 grams – $6.00
    4. 71 grams and over – $1.00 plus $.10 per gram
      (1 ounce = 28.35 grams)
  6. Please allow 10 days for your file to be printed. You will be notified via email when your print is complete and ready for pickup. This timeframe could be longer depending upon the demand at time of submission.
  7. Prints will be held at the Circulation Desk for 4 days. Prints need to be paid for upon pickup of item. Payment may be made in the form of cash or check. There will be no refunds unless directly related to a malfunction of the equipment.
  8. Patrons who fail to pick up a print within 4 days of being notified will have their account charged for the price of the print.
    1. Prints not picked up within 4 days from the date the patron was notified via email become property of CMPLD and may be displayed or discarded at the sole discretion of CMPLD staff.
    2. Patrons who fail to claim 2 print jobs in any 12-month period will have their 3D printing privileges temporarily suspended.
  9. CMPLD will not accept any files for printing that contain:
    1. Weapons or anything that resembles weapons.
    2. Content or objects in violation of local, state or federal laws.
    3. Content or objects in violation of U.S. and/or international copyright laws.
    4. Content or objects in violation of intellectual property rights.
    5. Objects that CMPLD staff consider obscene or inappropriate for display in a public library.
