Library Cards for Everyone… Even Babies!

A photo of a baby with a Cook Memorial Public Library Card in its mouth.

Beginning June 1, 2026, District residents of all ages may apply for a library card — even the littlest library users. We removed the minimum age requirement to expand access and make it easier for families to connect with the Library from the very beginning.

Many families already bring babies and toddlers to story times, check out board books, and read together at home. This change aligns our card policy with how families are already using the Library and encourages those early connections from day one.

The Library is here to support individuals and families at every stage of life, but ultimately, decisions about a child’s card and use of materials remain at the discretion of a parent or caregiver.
