Book Club Guidelines

1. Register Your Club

Please have the book club’s primary contact person fill out the Book Club Registration Form. Shortly afterward, you’ll receive a follow-up email asking for each member’s library card number, preferred pickup location, and preferred book format.

2. Select Your Titles

After registering, please send a list of 6-12 books with upcoming discussion dates to bookdiscussion@cooklib.org. We ask that you choose books from our book club collection.  We also have Book Club Title brochures online or at either Library location. We schedule books based on availability, but will try to schedule books for specific dates at your request.

3. Share Your Schedule

Once you receive your book club schedule, make sure everyone in the group has the dates. Follow up with us if a date or a title needs to be changed and we will work out those changes with you.

4. Pick Up Your Books

About four weeks prior to your book discussion date, book club members will receive a hold notice informing them their book is ready for pickup at their preferred location. Do not use the self-checkout as you will not get the extended due date. Circulation Services can only set the due date for what is listed on the hold slip.

If you need an extension, please contact us at bookdiscussion@cooklib.org. Extensions are granted based on the title’s availability.

Frequently Asked Questions

We serve over 100 active clubs with close to a thousand total members, so we can’t get multiple copies of books through Interlibrary Loan on a regular basis. We can, however, consider books outside of our collection and may get them at our discretion. Your club can always choose to get a book on their own. Please let us know if you choose to do this so we can keep your club’s reading history up to date.

Please contact us if you haven’t gotten your book! Chances are it is coming in through interlibrary loan. The books come in as the other libraries send them, so we are dependent on their timetable. We will work to figure out what has happened with your hold.

No. We do not track whether or not holds are picked up. However, if your missed hold was from Interlibrary Loan, it could take us a week or more to get you another copy.

No. However, Library policy states that we are not able to request Interlibrary Loan books for group members who live out of the Library District.
