CreativeBug for Our Times

Are you bored yet? Are you ashamed to admit you’ve read so much you just can’t read another word? Give your eyes a break and get creative with our online resource CreativeBug to find crafty and how-to videos for free.

Get started by clicking on the Research tab on Cook LIbrary’s website. Find CreativeBug in the alphabetical list of databases and click on it. Enter your Cook Library card number and you’re ready to get creative.

Here are some specific ideas for keeping you and your family engaged in a fun and artistic way.

  • Learn to knit or crochet
CreativeBug has lots of crochet and knitting videos for beginners. Just type in “How to knit” or “How to crochet” in the search box. If you already have this skill, check out all the videos and find a fun pattern. The crochet and knitting videos have instructions on everything from making stuffed animals to sweaters. Not a knitter? Search “yarn banners” for a fun project that requires no knitting or crochet needles at all!
  • Try a Daily Practice challenge
Click on this category to find a series of videos on a specific topic such as painting, quilting, embroidery, or just being creative. The series range from 15 days to 30 days. The days will just fly by.
  • If you’ve got young ones at home, particularly that hard-to-please upper elementary and middle school age, find a class you can both enjoy. Type “children” in the search box for fun ideas like puppet making, bubblemania, a weaving project, or how to make botanical prints.
  • Explore the multitude of videos on your own to find a creative expression that speaks to you. I myself plan to watch “The art of letter writing” and stay connected with far-away friends the old fashioned way.

CreativeBug is just one of the library’s many electronic resources that is always available to you with your Cook Library card.

Remember, even though Cook Library is closed, we’re still here for you.
