FamilySearch Indexing Event

Want to give something back to the genealogy community at large?

This weekend, October 20-22, FamilySearch is promoting a “Worldwide Indexing Event” in which you can help index digitized records on FamilySearch.

What is indexing, you ask? Through the FamilySearch website, you can view a digitized record or set of records and type out the genealogical information found in the document.  This will make the records searchable and help future genealogists find family information much more easily than they can now.

Over 60,000 volunteers have signed up so far, and you can, too. Make sure you have a FamilySearch account. Then, go to the Indexing Event website and sign in. There are directions and videos to help you get the hang of indexing, and then you’re ready to start indexing some records.

(If you enjoy indexing, watch this space for news of a Cook Library indexing event coming later this winter.)
