I have not been able to stop thinking about Anatomy of an Alibi for weeks, and since today is release day, I couldn’t help but share my thoughts.
It’s safe to say that Ashley Elston is back and here to deliver another edge-of-your-seat thriller that will make fans of her adult debut, First Lie Wins, feel right at home in. Sharp, suspenseful, and impossible to put down, this novel delivers the kind of carefully constructed mystery that keeps your mind racing long after the final page.
Anatomy of an Alibi is a twisty tale that follows two very different women—Camille and Aubrey—as they navigate the aftermath of a murder that threatens to destroy both of their lives. Told in a nonlinear timeline, the narrative unfolds through alternating points of view from Camille, her lawyer Hank, and Aubrey. While some stories that jump between the past and present can feel disjointed, this story was enriched by it. Elston excels at weaving together the different character perspectives and timelines, creating a story that feels as personal as it is compelling.
I truly can’t get over how satisfying this book was to read. The pacing is relentless without feeling rushed, every revelation is placed with purpose, and the characters are flawed in believable ways—making their choices feel authentic rather than convenient. The narrative practically invites readers to play detective. I found myself constantly questioning the different motives and outcomes while holding my breath as the truth inched closer. For me, what sets this thriller apart, is its commitment to logic. The twists aren’t flashy for shock value; they’re justified and well-earned.
I was impressed with how thoughtfully the pieces came together, and I’m certain that attentive readers will take note of that, too. It’s the kind of plot that had me flipping back to earlier pages just to admire how everything fit together. So, if you’re a fan of thrillers written with precision, consider this your invitation to dive in.
Readers who enjoyed Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera, The Night Shift by Alex Finlay, and The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine will find plenty to love here. Ashley Elston proves yet again that she knows exactly how to keep readers hooked and guessing until the end.
