Natalie’s Weekend Read : Tarot by Numbers

Every one of us was born with psychic capabilities that allow us to connect to Spirit. Whether you refer to it as instinct, “a gut reaction,” a hunch, we’re all a little bit intuitive.

Think about a time when you felt “bad vibes” from someone; or a time when you felt the presence of a lost loved one, maybe when you needed them most. Perhaps you had your heart set on a job or other opportunity that didn’t work out. You can wallow in the negative: “What’s wrong with me?,” “I’m such a loser.” OR, you can choose to remember that you are not alone and everything serves your higher good. The second perspective opens up infinite possibilities for something even better just around the corner.

When you ignore signs and other messages, brushing them aside as simple coincidence, you’re giving your power to others. However, when you trust yourself and listen to your intuition, you connect to a wiser and calmer “you.” You can’t hear your higher self if you’re listening to social conditioning and other distractions.

Psychic capabilities are muscles that need exercise. You can be a “psychic couch potato,” letting outside influences dictate your reality. Or you can flex your psychic muscles and lean into the possibility that you are a magical being bound to Spirit through unity consciousness and your intuition is a bridge to a higher realm. If this sounds completely insane, stop reading now. This post isn’t meant for you. If any of what I’ve said resonates, welcome fam.

Like a wifi signal, Spirit is all around waiting to be unencrypted. Decoding these messages can be a little like trying to connect to the internet. A device (you) can stream content from Netflix (Spirit) when you make a selection (tuning in). However, if you’re multitasking, you may miss the plot. Tuning into messages from Spirit starts with moving past the self-doubt and learning to trust yourself. When you focus inward, your psychic clair senses engage. Messages from Spirit can come through clairvoyance (clear sight), clairaudience (clear hearing), clairsentience (clear feeling), claircognizance (clear knowing), clairalience (clear smelling), and even clairgustance (clear tasting). What messages are you receiving and what messages have you been ignoring?

For me, the primary source of my intuition is claircognizance/clairsentience. I am empathic and I know much more than I should. I have no explanation for how I know some of the things I know; I just do. I get messages from Spirit all day, sometimes through coincidences, occasionally numerology, and always through tarot. Every morning I pull oracle cards for myself, for friends, and recently, I started posting daily cards on Snapchat meant for anyone who happens to see them. When I saw Tarot by numbers : learn the codes that unlock the meaning of the cards / Liz Dean, on the *NEW* shelf, I knew I had to check it out. Liz Dean has taken two complicated mediums (Numerology and Tarot) and shown how they can intertwine seamlessly to amplify Spirit’s messages. Whether you are new to tarot or a seasoned practitioner, you will learn something.

In a tarot deck, there are 22 Major Arcana cards numbered 1 to 21. In sequence, these cards depict the Hero’s Journey, an instantly recognizable trope, which Dean summarizes in an elegantly simple yet profound manner. In addition to the Major Arcana cards, tarot decks also include four suits of 56 cards, named the Minor Arcana. Just like playing cards, these minor cards are numbered Ace to 10 with 4 court cards. Without any knowledge of numerology or tarot, you can see how the Ace might indicate a beginning (an idea) and the 10, an ending (or ultimate expression of the idea). Taken in combination with tarot’s symbology (suit, colors, imagery), you can quickly discern a card’s meaning.

Dean then takes readers through an entire tarot deck, suit by suit, number by number, and breaks down what numbers mean in a reading, along with several numerology techniques, such as finding your tarot Birth Card and discovering your “tarotscope” – the tarot cards that influence each year of your life.

Tarot by numbers is a fast read and its already one of my favorite tarot references. I especially liked Dean’s simple yet elegant summaries of the major and minor arcanas. The real treasure, in my humble opinion, lies in the last chapter: Your Birth Cards and Tarotscope. The charts at the end that detail every birth card combination and the corresponding cards for ages 1-100 were extremely informative and easy to comprehend, once you get the math out of the way.

I’ve read a lot about tarot and numerology; this is the first time I’ve come across charts like these. The hardest part about the charts is doing the math. Once I got past simple addition (I had to double and triple check my math!), I was able to do readings for myself and friends that were very insightful. I will definitely be referencing these “tarotscope” charts often.

Ultimately, we all possess the ability communicate with Spirit. It’s important to remain open-minded and resist the urge to dismiss esoteric signals as “nonsense”. It’s amazing what you’ll hear when you start listening to the silence. And if Tarot is your tool of choice, this is your message from Spirit to check out Tarot by numbers : learn the codes that unlock the meaning of the cards / Liz Dean. You won’t regret it.
