Cyndi’s Pick of the Week: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

The 8th Harry Potter book.

That statement alone is probably enough to help most people determine whether they will read this week’s pick of the week: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. For those of you who aren’t sure, or just want to know more, you are in for a treat with this book.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child picks up at the epilogue at the end of Harry Potter cursedand the Deathly Hallows. Harry is a husband and father and putting his own kids on the Hogwarts Express. The scene in the epilogue is the first scene of the Cursed Child giving readers a feel of familiarity and solid timeline placement.

The Cursed Child features Harry pretty prominently, but the real stars are Harry’s second child Albus, and Draco’s son Scorpius. You can’t help but love them. Even with the focus on a different boy wizard, this book feels like the Harry Potter series, full of a rich world, hijinks, a pivotal mystery, and the threat of dark magic.

At just over 300 pages in play format, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is easily the quickest read of the series. It makes for a great afternoon (or a couple of them) and some of the scenes just ask to be acted out. This is a fun read for all Hogwarts fans, who will soon find some familiar and new faces to cheer for as well.
