See What the Adult Learning Center Can Do For You!

ALC2

On the morning of Friday, May 15th your Cook Memorial Library will be closed for staff training. The main purpose of this training is to help provide you with an excellent experience when using the library. This spring the Library’s board passed a strategic plan. Part of this plan stresses the library’s desire to help its patrons with lifelong learning. In the spirit of this, be sure to check out the Adult Leaning Center in the library’s databases.

If you are looking to improve your Microsoft skills, prepare for the US citizenship exam or fix-up that resume, the Adult Learning Center has something for you! Brought to you as part of the Brainfuse database series, which features Job Now! and Help Now!, the Adult Learning Center focuses in on those who wish to sharpen their talents for new or future employment.

• High School Equivalency Preparation & Citizenship Testing
If you are interested in starting work on your
High School Equivalency Exam (GED, TASC or HiSET) or taking the Citizenship Test, the Adult Learning Center is a great place to start. The ALC offers great information on test taking strategies, what will be on the test and many more items to help prepare and strategize. When you feel prepared, you are able to take practice tests and keep track of your scores. Most helpful of all may be the online tutors who are available daily from 2pm to 11pm CST.

• Microsoft
Need to learn or even master, your Microsoft Office skills? Take a look at the
GCF Learnfree.org, as well as Microsoft Office’s official site to see what you may specifically need to work on. When you have an idea of certain aspects of Office that are giving you trouble, feel free to get some help from the online tutors. You can narrow down which Office product you need assistance with: Office, Excel or Power Point.

• Career Resources
Whether you are looking for a job locally or nation-wide, the ALC has links to several job seeking websites all in one place. Broken down into two sections, the local sites focus specifically on the Libertyville area. Working with career sites, such as Careerbuilder, the ALC combines these sites into one convenient location for you to work with.

• Resume
The ALC also offers a great resource for writing and perfecting that resume. For those just starting to put their resume together or for those needing to give their resume a tweak, the ALC offers examples, templates and other invaluable resources. If you are finished with your resume and are looking for someone to critique it, send it to one of the ALC tutors to look over and offer advice. Results are returned within 24 hours. If you are just stuck on a problem, feel free to contact one of the Brainfuse instructors, who can offer live assistance to your problem.
