Get Creative at the Workshop

It may appear that CMPLD has a near endless supply of resources and activities for its patrons to choose from. Whether its our plethora of book clubs, classes on how to use Microsoft Word, or Movie Matinees every Thursday and Friday, there is surely an experience available for everyone.

If you are more of a creative type and want to learn about crafting, the Workshop provides programs and open lab hours starting in January to fill your creativity needs.

Is there a special relative’s birthday around the corner and you don’t want to spend money on a lavish card? Make incredible designs using the Silhouette Portrait 2 Vinyl Cutter found at the Workshop in the Lower Level of Cook Park.

Want a fun project to do with a real product to show for it? How about testing out the Lulzbot 3D Printer?

Here’s an Eiffel Tower being printed, how neat?!

Perhaps vinyl cutting isn’t your cup of tea or 3D printing seems too daunting, CMPLD’s Workshop also provides a button maker and Brother Project Runway Computerized Sewing Machines to help unleash the visionary in you.

Some classes and activities may require materials (such as vinyl adhesive & iron-on vinyl sheets) which will be available to purchase for a small fee at the checkout desk. In addition to the equipment, patrons will have access to black & white thread for sewing (no charge).

Material Prices

  • 1 inch button sets – 10 cents
  • 2.25 inch button sets – 20 cents
  • 12×12 vinyl sheet and heat transfer paper – $1.00
  • Thread – $1.00 per hour

Open lab hours at the Workshop will begin January 12th, 2019 and continue every Saturday 9am to 1pm (except February 2nd). Ryan May, tech aide and extraordinaire, will be available for assistance.

The Workshop open lab time are open to all cardholders ages 14 and older. Patrons under the age of 14 will need to be accompanied by an a adult during open lab hours.

If you would like to read more about the Workshop Policy, please refer here.

All patrons will need to sign a waiver to use certain equipment. These will be kept on file for future reference.

Further details about programs and equipment can be found on the Workshop page under the Services tab of our website.
